Hi, I’m Luke from O’Brien Engineering. Welcome to Material Mondays, where we focus on one of our speciality materials from our extensive range.
Today, we’re going to take a closer look at DuraBlack, which you can purchase as a sheet or, alternatively, we can process and cut in-house to create a custom product tailored to your specific requirements.
The name speaks for itself – this product is available exclusively in a beautiful matte black finish. It’s designed to be one of the most durable materials we offer.
The key difference between DuraBlack and a standard matte black anodised aluminium is its multi-layered construction. It consists of a high-grade aluminium base, an anodised coating, and the unique DuraBlack coating on top. This makes it highly resistant to some of the harshest environmental conditions, including UV exposure, chemicals, and extreme heat.
DuraBlack surpasses and outlasts standard anodised aluminium, making it ideal for military applications, asset labelling, and machinery identification – it’s even used in solar farms.
It offers beautiful, crisp engraving, and we can laser cut intricate details and unique shapes into it. When processed correctly, you can even achieve photo-quality images on the surface, which is a unique feature in itself. Additionally, its matte finish diffuses light, enhancing contrast and ultimately producing a superior engraving result.
