Engraving

Video Description:

Engraver’s brass is engineered to be the ideal grade for precision engraving. Its softness and malleability allow for crisp, clean lines without chipping or imperfections, making it a favorite for both rotary and laser engraving. The pre-coated brass is designed so that when engraved, it reveals a beautiful color contrast that elevates the overall design.

Hi, I’m Luke from O’Brien Engineering. Welcome to Material Mondays, where we focus on one of our speciality materials from our extensive range.

Today, we’re taking a closer look at Engraver’s Brass in 0.5mm and 1mm thicknesses. These can be purchased as sheets, or you can utilise our in-house cutting facilities to have them custom-cut to meet your specific requirements.

The coated Engraver’s Brass range comes in a variety of finishes, including satin gold, brushed gold, bright gold, and shiny black. In addition to the 0.5mm thickness, we also offer 1mm lacquered brass. While the 1mm option is obviously thicker, its lacquered coating provides essential protection against tarnishing.

One of the key features of this Engraver’s Brass range is that it is pre-coated. This means that when you engrave, it reveals a contrasting colour underneath. For example, the shiny black option engraves to a beautiful gold colour using a rotary engraving process. In the case of coated clear and bright finishes, when engraved and left to oxidise, the engraved areas turn black, creating a striking contrast with the gold surface.

Since this is engraver’s-grade brass, it is specifically designed to allow for fine detailing in engraved panels. If the wrong grade or type of brass is used, you may experience chipping or imperfections, preventing you from achieving precise detailing, as demonstrated in this sample.

For 0.5mm brass, depending on your equipment, you may be able to process or cut it to size yourself. However, one of the key advantages at O’Brien Engineering is that we can laser cut it with precision and high quality. Additionally, it die-punches exceptionally well, ensuring a uniform finish for custom sizes.

Brass is a premium material, offering a high-end finish. The 0.5mm and 1mm Engraver’s Brass options are ideal for detailed engraving, making them perfect for trophies, awards, plaques, and even some industrial applications.
