Hi, I’m Luke from O’Brien Engineering. Welcome to Material Mondays, where we focus on one of our specialised materials from our extensive range.
Today, we’re taking a closer look at Dynasub. This can be purchased as a sheet, or alternatively, you can utilise our in-house cutting facilities to create a custom product tailored to your requirements.
This product is called Dynasub because it’s a sublimation material. What that means is that a special polyester coating is applied to this aluminium, allowing for a transfer of colour directly onto the metal with beautiful, rich contrast. It’s perfect for awards, trophies, and even photography.
Today, we visited Nova Sublimation, where they demonstrated the unique process involved. You print using special inks onto a transfer paper, which is then taken to a heat press. By applying the correct heat and pressure settings, the inks transfer into the polyester coating, creating vibrant, high-quality colours.
This particular brushed gold sample has just had black applied – perfect for an award. As you can see here, this was done on Dyna White, showing that you can achieve excellent image quality straight onto a metal background.
Dynasub is a fantastic product because it’s both unique in its price point and high in quality, offering great brushed finishes in white, silver, gold, and bronze. It’s ideal for presentations and trophies, as it can be punched to size or laser cut. With its distinctive finish, you can then add personalisation using the sublimation process.
