Engraving Materials Laminates
Video Description:
In this video, Luke explains the features and benefits of Laserply – a premium engravable laminate material offered by O’Brien Engineering. It’s composed of two layers: a top coat and a core color beneath it. When the top coat is engraved, it reveals the contrasting core color, creating a clear and sharp visual effect. Laserply can be engraved using laser or rotor engraving techniques and can also be laser cut to create custom shapes and designs. It is available in various finishes, such as brush gold or copper, and can be used for a wide range of applications, including awards, electrical labeling, and industrial signage. The material is designed to offer high-quality, durable results, making it suitable for both decorative and functional purposes.

Hi, I’m Luke from O’Brien Engineering. Welcome to Material Mondays, where we focus on one of our speciality materials from our extensive range.
Today, we’re going to take a closer look at Laserply – a unique engravable laminate that can be purchased as a sheet, or alternatively, we can process it here in-house if needed.
Laserply is a unique laminate with a core colour covered by a top colour. You engrave away the top coat to reveal the core colour underneath. You can either rotary engrave or laser engrave, and you can also cut out shapes on your laser. The sheets can be purchased with adhesive on the back, allowing you to create a finished product using your own machinery in-house.
Here, you can see an array of colours that we’ve engraved to showcase the unique contrast and the quality of engraving that can be achieved. We have a good understanding of what people are looking for, and this core colour range ticks all the boxes – whether for trophies and presentation plaques, electrical applications, or various industrial uses.
For example, this is our 1.5mm brushed gold Laserply laminate. It’s a brushed gold that, when engraved, reveals a beautiful black contrast. Laserply has a very high-quality coating, ensuring you get a crisp engraving mark. With substandard or cheap laminates, you may experience burning or greyish engraving without that clean contrast.
Here is a sample of Laserply that has been laser engraved and then cut – something you could replicate on your own machines. This is a 6mm Laserply in a brushed copper finish, which engraves to a beautiful black. You can also laser cut it yourself – this sample was done on an Epilog Laser.
Laserply allows for use across multiple industries. The high-quality brushed gold and brushed silver finishes are ideal for awards, while other colours like yellow or red are often used in electrical applications, such as danger tags. You can engrave the products in-house and cut them to suit a variety of industrial applications.
