Bulk Laser Cutting For Trophies & Awards

Laser cutting trophy plates

Video description

Bulk laser cutting done properly – from overnight throughput to presentation-grade finish. In this video, Luke from O’Brien Engineering walks through our high-volume laser-cutting workflow, refined over decades and born from our trophy-plate heritage. See how we combine speed with immaculate finish – from fibre-laser cutting and smart micro-joints to meticulous checking, cleaning, and heat-shrink bundling so every plate arrives protected and ready to use.

What you’ll see

  • Multiple fibre lasers built for volume – ideal for small plates at high speed without sacrificing precision
  • Overnight runs (e.g. 316 stainless) to keep lead times tight and jobs moving
  • Micro-joint strategies that prevent twisting and corner pull so parts release cleanly
  • Quality checks to minimise burring, followed by cleaning, plastic protection on every plate, and heat-shrink packs for tidy handling and storage

Video transcript

Hi guys, Luke from O’Brien Engineering here. Today I want to chat to you about laser cutting, but more specifically bulk and volume. I want to show you the unique process O’Brien has developed over decades which stems from our history of the trophy plate.

We focus very specifically on the quality – from the cut quality through to how we’re picking, packing, checking it, the process of cleaning the plate, and even shrink wrapping. Those finer details are what separate us from other laser cutters who might do industrial style versus high-quality products to suit trophy engraving presentations.

Here behind me, we have one of our fibre lasers. This is one of a few in our inventory. This specific machine is a fibre laser and it’s great for cutting small plates, especially at high speeds, while still maintaining the high quality we require. Here behind me, we have some 316.9 that ran overnight. With our machines, all of them have the capability to run two sheets per night.

What that means is we can get maximum efficiency, great cut quality, and ensure that goods are constantly turning over to service our customers. And then in the morning when the guys come in, they can start picking, packing and processing these items to then go out and get them out the door as quick as we can. All the way down to the micro joints has been thought about, ensuring that when these parts come out of the sheet, they don’t twist and pull on the corners and it’s easy to remove.

Once the plates have been removed from the sheet, we check the plates to ensure there’s no excessive burring. And then the final step for us, which is quite unique, is we then go on to heat shrink the items. So you’ll receive the items ready to go with plastic protection on every plate and then heat trapped in bundles.
